Wonderful 18k rose gold Free as a Bird pendant necklace by Cartier. This is not only a masterfully created piece of jewelry. It is also a piece of history that represents France's liberation at the end of World War II when Parisians no longer had to live like caged birds! Original design created in 1944 by Jean Toussaint. This is a modern recreation by the house of Cartier to commemorate the brilliant design! The pendant features a bird made of amethyst with lapis lazuli wings, a tsavorite eye, and 0.20 carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds standing at the edge of a pink-sapphire-topped cage, doors flung open. Signed and numbered by the house of Cartier. The pendant measures 1" x 0.6". The necklace is 16" long but can also be worn as a 15" necklace. Weight: 4.5 gr.
